Josh Shaw, cornerback for West Coast Bureau Chief Nick Lawson's alma mater, the University of Southern California Trojans, will be sidelined for an unknown amount of time after suffering injuries to both ankles. Because he's a hero.
At a family birthday party Shaw, who was standing on a second floor balcony, spotted his seven-year-old nephew, who cannot swim, struggling in a swimming pool. Acting on instinct, Shaw leapt from the balcony, severely spraining both ankles when he landed on the concrete (ya think?). Still, Shaw managed to get in the water and rescue his nephew.
"I would do it again, no matter what kid it was," Shaw said. "It didn't have to be my nephew."
Awesome. You're one of the good ones, Josh Shaw.
